Arbolí

Climbing in El Dard, Arbolí

Climbing in Arbolí feels endless, with over 500 established routes ranging from 4+ to 8c. The variety is wild — think short, bouldery moves at L’Ermita, long and pumpy vertical walls at El Falco, sectors like El Dard that look over the Mediterranean, and even some quality bouldering if you prefer pads over ropes. And the best part? Most of the crags are just a 15-45 minute walk from the house.

Siurana

25 min driving

A scenic view of Siurana.

You’ve probably heard of Siurana. It’s legendary — and with good reason. This crag has seen so many of climbing’s most historic ascents, like Margo Hayes sending La Rambla (the first female 9a+ ascent) and Will Bosi establishing his first 9b+, King Capella.

But don’t worry, you don’t need to be a pro to enjoy Siurana, there’s something here for everyone — from steep limestone caves to slabby red sandstone, this place is truly paradise for everyone who loves this sport.

La Mussara

15 min driving

View from La Mussara

Perched 1,000 meters above sea level on the edge of a plateau with gorgeous coastal views, La Mussara offers some of the best low and moderate grade sport climbing in the region. The limestone here is bulletproof, but it has fallen out of the spotlight recently — so you can expect classic routes without the crowds.

Montsant

40 min driving

View of Montsant from Arbolí

Montsant is simply epic —10 km of limestone cliffs stacked with over 600 routes. Rock-wise, the limestone is similar to Margalef conglomerate, with perfect pockets everywhere.

Despite its imposing stature, Montsant does tend to be less visited than it’s more famous neighbor Siurana. This means less polish, less wait time, and more peace. Fun fact: it’s Lynn Hill’s favorite place to climb in Spain. Once you climb here, you’ll totally get why.

Margalef

1 hr driving

Climber in Margalef

Margalef’s world-class conglomerate cliffs are pocket heaven. They say children (and children-sized adults) do really well here, and it’s for a good reason — routes tend to be short and steep, rewarding small hands and feet.

That’s not to say there aren’t any long and slabby climbs at Margalef — with nearly 1,800 routes across 95 sectors, you’re sure to find something that’s exactly your style too.
